I bitch a lot this time around.
This episode is information overload. We find that Usagi and Mamoru are Chibiusa's parents, the Black Moon took over the forbidden planet Nememis, and are attacking because they don't like the Silver Millennium people (you know, how a lot of wars are because "you're different, that's why").
And really, that's about it. Pluto is asked to lend a hand if needed and at the end they battle and defeat Esmeraude, only to have Moon get captured. Between that, there's the annoying "Usagi is jealous of Chibiusa" plot that I'm am sick to death of, and a lot of plot holes (which I'll get to).
But first, the usual: how was the animation? Pretty low. The anatomy is a joke and there's no effort at all to give anything any detail, nor to make the faces have any other expression that dead/blank. At least the voice acting and music are the same quality.
This looks so off model it's not funny.
But what got me this time was the sheer amount of plot holes. The biggest one is when asked what happened, King Endymion states, "I don't know" then explains in minute detail EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. It may be a small thing, but it bugs the crap out of me. Also, if everyone was instantly knocked unconscious except for Chibiusa and Diana, how in the nine hells did all of their bodies get put in the Crystal Palace and placed on pedestals?? Ugh, inconsistencies.
To add on that, it's stated that Sailor Moon can't use the power of the Crystal in the future.... But everyone else can use theirs? Because it comes from "in them" and not a Crystal? But isn't the Crystal a PART of Sailor Moon and not a completely separate item that just grants her powers? That detail has annoyed me every since I read it in the manga.
Oh, and the whole "reveal" of the parents? Not much of a reveal when you were shoving it in our faces from day one.
No, Chibiusa, NO ONE IS ACTUALLY SURPRISED.
Well, at least they kept the scene of Venus landing on top of everyone. I also really like the short interaction between Rubeus and Esmeraude.
I thought it was pretty cute.
Yes, you have a daughter. I don't get why this is so shocking. :/
You can watch all the episodes streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu, NeonAlley, or NicoNico. Or if the original 90's is more your thing, you can watch it at Hulu (with two more episodes every Monday).
